Ethereum vs Sei

General

Description

Ethereum Logo
Ethereum
 (ETH)

Ethereum is the leading platform for decentralized applications and DeFi. At its core is the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which enables so-called smart contracts to run automatically without any central authority. Transactions are validated in a decentralized way by a global network of validators.

Sei Logo
Sei
 (SEI)

Sei is a Layer-1 blockchain built for maximum speed in trading digital assets. As the first parallelized EVM blockchain, Sei executes transactions simultaneously and achieves block times of around 400 milliseconds through its "Twin-Turbo" consensus mechanism. This lets Sei combine Ethereum's EVM compatibility with significantly higher transaction throughput, while its interoperability with the Cosmos ecosystem provides access to shared liquidity.

Our opinion

Ethereum Logo
Ethereum
 (ETH)
From our perspective, Ethereum was the key breakthrough that brought programmable blockchains to life. It was the first platform to introduce smart contracts, laying the foundation for decentralized apps (dApps), DeFi, and NFTs. Unlike Bitcoin, we don’t see Ether (ETH) as just a currency but rather as the fuel powering a decentralized world computer. To this day, Ethereum benefits from its first-mover advantage and has built a strong ecosystem of developers, applications, and users. While high transaction fees and scalability remain a challenge, the successful transition to Proof of Stake (The Merge on September 15, 2022) marked a major step forward. In our view, Ethereum remains the leading smart contract platform — which is why, alongside Bitcoin, it represents the second-largest position in our crypto portfolio.

Sei Logo
Sei
 (SEI)
Sei is built around parallel transaction execution and positions itself as the first parallelized EVM, directly targeting Ethereum's scalability bottlenecks. By processing multiple transactions simultaneously rather than sequentially, the network can theoretically handle up to 12,500 transactions per second with block times of around 400 milliseconds. On top of that, its Twin-Turbo consensus mechanism uses smart block propagation and optimistic processing to keep latency remarkably low — a real advantage for trading and DeFi use cases that depend on fast execution. That said, there's still a gap between theory and practice: real-world network usage currently sits well below this theoretical ceiling, and the "Giga" upgrade, which targets over 200,000 TPS, is still in the process of rolling out. We're keeping a close eye on how smoothly this upgrade lands and whether real network activity actually picks up to match the infrastructure. Overall, we see Sei as a technically ambitious project with a clear focus on trading performance — one that still has to prove it can deliver on that promise at scale.
