About Stellar

What is Stellar?

Stellar is a decentralized payment network used by both businesses (e.g., financial service providers) and individuals to process cross-border payments quickly, cheaply, and efficiently across different currency zones. Thanks to its built-in “Asset Exchange,” assets such as currencies can be seamlessly exchanged with one another.

Our opinion

The open-source Stellar network shares similarities with Ripple (XRP) both in its target audience and technology: neither uses a traditional blockchain to manage their decentralized networks, and both aim to make cross-border payments more efficient. This similarity is no coincidence, as Jed McCaleb, one of Stellar’s co-founders, previously worked at Ripple (XRP). Cross-border payment flows present significant challenges for many financial institutions, often being costly and slow. Stellar addresses similar issues as Ripple but takes a more open approach by serving both businesses and individuals. The Stellar network is already used by notable payment providers such as Stripe, MoneyGram, and Circle. We find Stellar very interesting but feel the market in this segment is too uncertain to form a definitive judgment.
