Our opinion

BitBox02 Logo
BitBox02
The BitBox02 hardware wallet, priced at $175, isn’t cheap, but it’s one of the most secure and privacy-focused options. The team continually innovates with security features, such as a second “hidden wallet” (plausible deniability) that can be accessed in cases of “forced access” (like robberies or other threats). This separate wallet holds only fractions of the actual assets, enabling what’s called “plausible deniability.” From the ordering process to daily use, it’s clear that the team’s commitment to security is evident. Naturally, this focus comes with trade-offs: compared to other hardware wallets, the BitBox02 and its software offer far fewer integrations, apps, and features. For those who only want to store Bitcoin, there’s also a “Bitcoin-only” version with even fewer features—and thus fewer potential attack vectors. In our view, BitBox is the top choice for maximum security and privacy.

Trezor Model One
The Trezor Model One offers a simple and secure entry point into self-custody of cryptocurrencies. While it has fewer features and lacks a color display compared to the premium “Model T,” it provides excellent value for beginners and budget-conscious users. A notable positive aspect is the manufacturer’s open-source philosophy, which is not always common in the wallet space and contributes significantly to the overall security of the wallet and its software. Overall, we can definitely recommend the Model One but would personally lean towards a comparable “Ledger Nano S” or a “Bitbox.” However, for those who want to stick with Trezor and are looking for an affordable, secure hardware wallet, the Model One is an excellent choice.
