BitBox02

The Bitbox02 from Switzerland is currently considered one of the most secure hardware wallets on the market. The manufacturer deliberately avoids unnecessary features, focusing on well-designed features that improve security and privacy. For purists, there is also a “Bitcoin-only” version available.

The Ledger Flex is the latest flagship model from the popular manufacturer Ledger. Unlike previous models, this hardware wallet does not come as a stick but features an E-Ink “Secure Touchscreen” for the first time, designed to offer simple and intuitive operation, especially for beginners.

Our opinion

BitBox02 Logo
BitBox02
The BitBox02 hardware wallet, priced at $175, isn’t cheap, but it’s one of the most secure and privacy-focused options. The team continually innovates with security features, such as a second “hidden wallet” (plausible deniability) that can be accessed in cases of “forced access” (like robberies or other threats). This separate wallet holds only fractions of the actual assets, enabling what’s called “plausible deniability.” From the ordering process to daily use, it’s clear that the team’s commitment to security is evident. Naturally, this focus comes with trade-offs: compared to other hardware wallets, the BitBox02 and its software offer far fewer integrations, apps, and features. For those who only want to store Bitcoin, there’s also a “Bitcoin-only” version with even fewer features—and thus fewer potential attack vectors. In our view, BitBox is the top choice for maximum security and privacy.

Ledger Flex
Ledger has long been a leader in making hardware wallet setup as simple as possible. With the new Ledger Flex and its E-Ink touchscreen, we believe they have made another significant improvement. Especially for beginners, onboarding and setup are now even clearer thanks to the large E-Ink touchscreen. The device is also more customizable and can display NFTs. In our view, the Ledger Flex currently offers the best value. Although the Ledger Stax is the new premium model, we personally preferred the Flex, even though it costs less. The Ledger Flex feels great in the hand and feels solid and high-quality. For those who don’t necessarily need an E-Ink touchscreen, the Ledger Nano series is still a solid choice. The Ledger Flex is our personal favorite and has replaced the Nano X for us.

In summary, the Ledger Flex offers a premium design, high security standards, and user-friendly operation. It is particularly suitable for users who value sleek design and flexibility, but less so for those looking to manage many cryptocurrencies simultaneously. While the high price is seen as a drawback, the Ledger Flex overall impresses with its functionality and security.
