Our opinion

Ethereum Logo
Ethereum
 (ETH)
From our perspective, Ethereum was the key breakthrough that brought programmable blockchains to life. It was the first platform to introduce smart contracts, laying the foundation for decentralized apps (dApps), DeFi, and NFTs. Unlike Bitcoin, we don’t see Ether (ETH) as just a currency but rather as the fuel powering a decentralized world computer. To this day, Ethereum benefits from its first-mover advantage and has built a strong ecosystem of developers, applications, and users. While high transaction fees and scalability remain a challenge, the successful transition to Proof of Stake (The Merge on September 15, 2022) marked a major step forward. In our view, Ethereum remains the leading smart contract platform — which is why, alongside Bitcoin, it represents the second-largest position in our crypto portfolio.

Canton
 (CC)
Canton takes one of the most credible institutional approaches in the RWA sector. Rather than replicating a conventional retail-focused blockchain, the network was built specifically for banks, exchanges, custodians and other regulated market participants. Privacy and interoperability are not added features, but core parts of its architecture. Participants only see the data relevant to them, while assets and applications can still interact across the network. CC’s distribution model also stands out from many crypto projects. The token launched without a traditional presale or special founder allocations. Network fees are burned, while new coins are issued as rewards to applications, users and infrastructure providers that make measurable contributions to the network. The investment case remains complex, however. Not every application on the Canton Network must generate direct demand for CC, and new token issuance may initially exceed the amount burned through fees. The privacy architecture also makes much of the institutional activity difficult for outsiders to verify. Overall, we view Canton as one of the most promising infrastructure projects for tokenized assets. For CC, the key question is whether institutional adoption can generate sufficient fees, token burns and sustained direct demand.
