Our opinion

Stellar Logo
Stellar
 (XLM)
The open-source Stellar network shares similarities with Ripple (XRP) both in its target audience and technology: neither uses a traditional blockchain to manage their decentralized networks, and both aim to make cross-border payments more efficient. This similarity is no coincidence, as Jed McCaleb, one of Stellar’s co-founders, previously worked at Ripple (XRP). Cross-border payment flows present significant challenges for many financial institutions, often being costly and slow. Stellar addresses similar issues as Ripple but takes a more open approach by serving both businesses and individuals. The Stellar network is already used by notable payment providers such as Stripe, MoneyGram, and Circle. We find Stellar very interesting but feel the market in this segment is too uncertain to form a definitive judgment.
Stellar overview
VeChain Logo
VeChain
 (VET)
VeChain is a first-generation blockchain and smart contract platform that has been on the market for quite some time. The network primarily focuses on improving information flows within complex corporate supply chains. By combining blockchain technology with RFID sensors, for example, it’s possible to automatically detect whether a medication or food product was improperly cooled during transit—and pinpoint exactly where this occurred. VeChain is also used in combating counterfeit products. Over the years, VeChain has secured partnerships with several prominent companies, including BMW, Renault, Kühne + Nagel, Walmart, and luxury group LVMH. We find VeChain’s use cases and its focus as an enterprise blockchain intriguing, but from an investment perspective, we personally don’t see a compelling case. Our thesis is that significant long-term price appreciation is more likely to come from cryptocurrencies or blockchains that enjoy high demand and widespread use among the general public.
