Our opinion

Polygon (POL) Logo
Polygon (POL)
 (POL)
Layer-2 solutions like Polygon have become indispensable for a scalable Ethereum ecosystem, and Polygon was one of the first major players to keep Ethereum usable despite massively increased demand. The problem: its original competitive edge is rapidly eroding as Arbitrum has overtaken Polygon in Total Value Locked (TVL), Optimism excels with better Ethereum compatibility, and Base benefits from Coinbase's marketing muscle. Particularly concerning is Polygon's positioning as a multi-chain hub with its 2.0 strategy, potentially losing focus while competitors successfully concentrate on pure Ethereum scaling. The academic-sounding marketing around "AggLayer" and POL can't hide the fact that genuine user and developer adoption has stagnated. Ethereum's roadmap is betting long-term on Layer-2s, but the market is evolving into a winner-takes-most scenario where Polygon must prove it can not only keep up technologically but also win back community and developer momentum — currently, it looks more like a slow decline into irrelevance.

Harmony Logo
Harmony
 (ONE)
Harmony is a relatively new Layer-1 blockchain and a fresh competitor in the realm of smart contract platforms. What sets Harmony apart is its use of Random State Sharding, which essentially means executing network tasks in parallel to quickly produce new transaction blocks, thereby boosting efficiency. To maintain security in this setup, Harmony utilizes VRF (Verifiable Random Function) to ensure unpredictable, unbiased, verifiable, and immediate randomization, enabling a fair validation process. For its consensus mechanism, it relies on Effective Proof of Stake (EPoS), tailored to fit the sharding concept. Like all newer smart contract platforms, Harmony still has to prove itself, especially when it comes to solidifying its technological foundation. Currently, the most well-known project running on the Harmony blockchain is the blockchain game DeFi Kingdoms. Overall, the number of projects building on Harmony remains quite limited. We’re continuing to watch Harmony from the sidelines, but for now, investing in its cryptocurrency feels too risky for us.
